A Cornerstone of the Outer Banks for Over 65 Years

In 1950, on a salty Manteo waterfront, founder Burwell ‘Burl’ Evans fulfilled his dream of a hardware store on the Outer Banks. Between he and his wife running the store, it was about as ‘Mom & Pop’ as you could get. In the first 10 years of business, the hardware store flooded 12 times, but dedication was key in Evans’ heart.

Over 65 years later Outer Banks Ace has grown to 6 convenient locations between Dare and Currituck counties.

Through the years, a tradition started of providing excellent service for the people who live on and visit Northeast NC with a clean, convenient and pleasant shopping experience. Outer Banks Ace will always have a full stock of positive attitudes, dedication to customers, and good humor as well as genuinely caring for you!

In September of 2017, Outer Banks Ace was acquired by Westlake Ace Hardware. Westlake has been in operation for more than 100 years and currently has 107 neighborhood hardware stores in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. It has been part of the Ace Hardware distribution network since 1959, and a wholly owned Ace subsidiary since 2012.

“Westlake is a growing and vibrant brand, and we are excited to become part of the Outer Banks community,” said Tom Knox, CEO of Westlake. “Outer Banks Ace Hardware is a top-notch operation with a 67-year-long tradition of outstanding customer service. We welcome them into the Westlake family and vow to always be there to help their customers keep their households running smoothly by providing the highest level of service, know-how, and products.”
