About Us
Burwell Evans started selling hardware on the Outer Banks over 60 years ago. In that time a tradition started of providing excellent service for the people who live on and visit Northeast NC with a clean, convenient and pleasant shopping experience. Outer Banks Ace will always have a full stock of positive attitudes, dedication to customers, and good humor as well as genuinely caring for you. This is what they strive to continue and improve with 7 locations and over 18,000 items.
In 1950, on a salty Manteo waterfront, ‘Burl’ invested in the dream of a hardware store and put his last $16 he had in the store register. He and his wife ran the store for 13 hours a day/6 days a week and was about as Mom & Pop as you can get. Burl and his wife would even swap between the store and home babysitting so he could eat lunch with his children. Just in the first 10 years of business, Burwell Evans’ hardware store flooded 12 times but dedication was key in this man’s heart.
During the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and now new stores have been added as well as taking on the Ace name to provide a better variety of product at a better price, but no matter how much they grow they have always made it a point to give customers personal attention and make sure that the customer gets what they need.
Outer Banks Ace has always been based in the community and has been a strong advocate in supporting the economy with local employees who are treated like family, many of which have stayed with Outer Banks Ace for decades.
Outer Banks Ace and its employees have served and continue to serve each customer personally and enjoy a friendly relationship with everyone. Outer Banks Ace may have outgrown its mom and pop status, but the feeling of a family business is still here at each of our 7 convenient locations.
